In short
- BenchTested (benchtested.app) has no user accounts and shows no ads. Analytics cookies are used only if you accept them.
- If you send us a message through the contact form, we use it only to read and answer it.
- Our web server keeps short-lived technical logs to keep the site running and secure.
- You can ask us at any time what we hold about you and have it deleted.
What we collect
You can read every page on BenchTested without telling us who you are. We only receive personal data in two cases: when you write to us, and in the technical logs every web server keeps. The site search runs entirely in your browser, so what you type into it is not sent to us.
Contact form messages
When you use the contact form, we receive the name, email address, topic and message you enter, the time it was sent and your IP address. The IP address is used only to block spam and abuse.
We use this information to read and answer your message, and for nothing else: no newsletters, no marketing and no sharing with the vendors we review. Messages are stored on our own server and forwarded to our mailbox so we can reply. We keep them for up to 12 months after the conversation ends, then delete them, unless we need them longer to deal with a legal claim. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering messages sent to us, and your request when you ask us something.
Server logs
Like any website, our server records basic request data: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the browser’s user-agent string and the referring page. We use these logs only to operate the site, fix errors and protect it against abuse, and we delete them within 30 days unless they are needed to investigate a specific incident.
Cookies and analytics
BenchTested works without cookies. If you choose Accept in the cookie banner, we also load two analytics tools to count visits and see which pages are read and how people move through the site:
- Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Ltd. / Google LLC), with IP anonymisation. It sets cookies such as
_gathat last up to two years. Google’s privacy policy. - Yandex Metrica (YANDEX LLC / Yandex Oy), without session recording. It sets cookies such as
_ym_uidand_ym_dthat last up to a year. Yandex’s privacy policy.
These providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States and Russia. Nothing is loaded if you choose Decline or ignore the banner. Your choice is stored only in your browser, and you can change it at any time with Cookie settings in the footer. We do not use advertising or social-media tracking, and analytics data never affects a score or a ranking.
Links to other sites
Our reviews link to the websites of the apps we test. Some of these may be affiliate links, as explained in our disclosure. Once you leave BenchTested, the other site’s own privacy policy applies, including any cookies it sets to track an affiliate referral.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the GDPR in the EU and UK and under US state privacy laws, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, have it deleted, restrict or object to its use, and receive a copy of it. We do not sell or share personal data for advertising.
To use any of these rights, email hello@benchtested.app. We will answer within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
BenchTested is written for adults choosing software for work. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes and contact
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the date at the top. For any privacy question, write to hello@benchtested.app or use the contact form.
