Rankings
Best software by category
Rankings of the best business software in every category we cover, ordered by hands-on test scores rather than sponsorships.
How the rankings are built
Each ranking orders the apps in one category by their overall score from our hands-on tests. Every app in a category runs the same script on the same clean Windows machine, so the scores are directly comparable.
The overall score is a weighted average of five or six axes, such as task success, speed, privacy and value. The weights are fixed for each category and published on our methodology page, and you can move them yourself on every ranking page to re-rank the list by what matters to you.
No app can pay for a place. Affiliate links never change a score, a rank or a verdict, and a ranking is only published once at least one app in the category has finished testing.
